Billy is a young graduate. He writes songs, which he records in local recording studios; and also DJs in his spare time in local clubs. Billy shares a small council flat in West London with his girlfriend, Rose and their young baby. The couple is strapped for cash, and so Billy works as a pirate mini-cab driver to make ends meet.
One night he picks up two mysterious strangers near Hampstead Heath. Cutter and Romeo are street dudes on a mission for a shady Lithuanian crime baron, Jurgis Balthisarus.
Billy drops Romeo off in West Hampstead, and his subsequent journey with Cutter takes him into the dangerous underworld of the city; and into the mind of a deeply lonely and troubled young man whose underlying desire is for family, friendship and a sense of belonging.
Cutter kidnaps Billy at gun-point. He demands money, which Billy doesn't have. He then threatens to kill him and his family if he doesn't stay with him, to "look out" for him.
Billy chauffeurs Cutter from one sleazy destination to another, in his quest to find money and drugs.
As the night progresses, a strange dynamic develops between the two young men, and eventually Billy tries to change Cutter's fortunes through their shared love of music. But is it too late for Cutter, or is it too late for Billy?
Night Falls in the City takes place over one fateful night on the mean streets of London. It is a buddy movie with a twist; one in which it is unclear until the very end whether love, trust, and a meaningful friendship could possibly evolve out of a relationship between captor and captive. They refer to each other as "bruv", and "brother". But how much of this is a ploy on the part of Billy to save himself and his young family? And is Cutter simply trying to find love, or is he just trying to survive one more night in a heartless city.
